Step-by-Step Guide to Using Your Resin Kit
Let’s go through the steps to make your first set of coasters.
Step 1: Set Up Your Workspace
Before you start, it’s important to make sure that your workspace is clean and protected. Resin can be sticky! Make sure to protect your table with some plastic or newspaper. Make sure to wear the gloves that are included in your kit to prevent sticky hands and damage to your skin. Make sure to work in an environment that has fresh air, so open a window if there is one.
Step 2: Mix the Resin
The kit resin comes in two parts: resin, and hardener. You will mix equal parts of each. For example, if you use 30ml of resin, you will use 30ml of hardener. Pour them into the Ezipour beaker and slowly mix them with a stick for approximately 3 to 5 minutes, scraping the sides and bottom while mixing.
Tip: Stir slowly to help avoid bubbles.
Step 3: Add Some Colour
Now for the fun part—adding color! Pick one or more of your mica or opaque pigments. Pour a small amount into the resin and stir until fully mixed. You can make different colours in separate cups to pour different patterns.
You can try:
- Pouring colours one by one
- Swirling them with a stick
- Making a marbled effect
There’s no wrong way to be creative!
Step 4: Pour the Resin into the Coasters
Place your acrylic coasters on an even surface. Then, gently pour the coloured resin on top of the coasters. You can also slightly move the coaster around gently to spread the resin or use a stick or your finger to move the resin around!
Make sure the coasters are level so the resin doesn’t run off the sides.
Step 5: Let the Resin Cure
Once your coasters look how you want, it’s time to let them cure (dry and harden). Leave them in a dust-free place for about 24 hours. Try not to touch or move them while they are curing.
After a full day, your coasters should be dry, hard, and shiny!
